What is Sage 200?
Sage 200 is set of powerful finance and ERP software modules that integrate together to manage and automate business accounting processes outside the core financial ledgers for nominal, sales, purchasing and cash book.
The Sage 200 system is highly configurable to fit your business accounting requirements, and it is very scalable and easily tailored. Select additional modules to manage your supply chain, inventory, project accounting, bill of materials (BOM), manufacturing processes, customer relationship management (CRM) and time and expenses.
Add further third-party applications from the Sage 200 marketplace to further enhance the system, from enhancing credit control, GoCardless integration to automating supplier payments and payroll.

Sage 50 Accounts is great for small sized businesses or start-ups, whilst Sage 200 is ideal for larger SME’s or medium sized enterprises, it is is highly configurable, scalable and flexible and is a popular choice for companies who have outgrown Sage 50, for more information on the differences read our comparison guide.
Sage 200 is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and business management solution for larger SMB’s or medium sized enterprises that will manage accounting, finances, supply chain operations, inventory management, project accounting, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, customer relationship management (CRM) and compliance. The Sage 200 accounting product range is available in two different versions, Sage 200 Standard and Professional. Standard is only available online via the Cloud whilst Professional is available in the Cloud and also as an On-Premise version, view the comparison guide Professional vs Standard.
Both versions of Sage 200 are basically the same software, however Sage 200 Professional has extra functionality available such as; Project Accounting, CRM, Business Intelligence and Manufacturing. The Professional version is also highly customisable.
Most businesses are now required to submit VAT returns digitally via MTD ready software as Making Tax Digital is HMRC’s move to digitise tax.
The latest version of Sage 200 is Making Tax Digital (MTD) Compliant, as of 1st April, companies with a turnover above £85k (check the latest threshold limits by following the links below) now have to submit VAT through commercial accounting software, further information and latest updates on MTD.
Pricing for Sage 200 licences start from an affordable £275 per month for Sage 200 Professional, whilst the Standard software costs start from £290 per month which is the entry level online version in the Cloud. The cost of Sage 200 is based on a subscription only plan (SaaS), where fees are paid on a monthly basis, Sage does not give you the option to buy the perpetual license anymore, read our pricing guide.
Both Sage 200 Professional Extra and Sage line 200 refer to older versions of Sage 200 software, the product has continued to have new features added to it in the latest version, which many business users have upgraded to.
Sage has two products in the UK targeted at the small to medium business market, these are Sage 200 and Sage Intacct. Sage 200 was developed and launched in the UK in 2002 and is a set of accountancy and management products developed by Sage Group aimed at small to medium sized businesses. Sage 200 was initially launched under the product name Mid-Market Solution (MMS), it was then rebranded Extra and then as Sage 200 before being known today as Sage 200.
